After struggling with my knee for a long time due to an old ACL injury and a previous ACL surgery, I finally decided to go ahead with revision surgery and I am very glad I chose Dr. Paul Jairaj!

As a former (amateur) football player and marathon runner I have been suffering from osteoarthritis in both knees since my fifties. The condition has now deteriorated to such an extent that a bilateral knee joint replacement will be called for in the not-too-distant future.

But I feel very fortunate to have had Mr Jairaj as my Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon for the last couple of years. From my very first consultation with him, Mr Jairaj impressed me by his high intelligence, his extensive knowledge and expertise in his chosen specialty and his exemplary approach to patient care. Mr Jairaj’s whole approach is utterly professional. He is able to explain medical issues, and e.g. outline the different options for treatment, with great clarity and incisiveness, and in a way that the patient can readily understand.

At the same time, Mr Jairaj displays great empathy for his patient and is sensitive to the patient’s needs and concerns. I am, for example, grateful to Mr Jairaj for having over the last 18 months given me two successive bilateral steroid knee injections. This has enabled me throughout this period to enjoy a pretty active lifestyle and to operate with a very reasonable degree of mobility, although I appreciate that in the longer term a bilateral knee joint replacement is unavoidable.

As and when the time comes for this, I have every confidence that Mr Jairaj will perform the operation with the utmost skill and care. I have no doubt that Mr Jairaj enjoys the trust and confidence of all his patients. He is an outstanding doctor in every way, and I would not hesitate to recommend him as an Orthopaedic Consultant Surgeon to any friends, colleagues or members of my family who were experiencing hip or knee joint problems.

Having had pain in my knees for several years my husband finally persuaded me to see Paul. My husband had his left hip replaced by Paul 12 years ago & was delighted with the results. I had my right knee replaced in September 2023 & my left knee was replaced at the end of last year. I now sleep without my knees locking, I’m fully back to biking & hiking and I’m about to head to the ski mountains this winter. I was referred to Paul Jairaj, Consultant Hip and Knee Surgeon practising at London Bridge Hospital, by the physio clinic I was attending in Sevenoaks. He first carried out a very successful replacement right knee operation in 2016, and then in 2018, following the development of a very painful right hip, a replacement hip operation. Paul has proved to be a top notch surgeon. He is delightfully personable and instils complete confidence. I have been so pleased with the surgery he has done for me. I am completely back to full fitness.

I first met Paul Jairaj eight years ago when he was recommended to me by a friend.

I had been a professional ballet dancer with The Royal Ballet for 22 years and been teaching and coaching one on one for 7 years when the pain in my right hip became unbearable to a point where I could no longer function even as a non dancer.

Having never experienced an injury or surgery it was incredibly daunting and I was so scared but Paul was so unbelievably reassuring and so confident in the outcome he could and would provide that my trust in him was instantaneous.

After my surgery, which was not under general anaesthetic, he was very present in my recovery and three days later I left the hospital on one crutch. Three weeks later I was in the studio teaching. Yes I had to sit down and I wasn’t exactly demonstrating but I also wasn’t limited in my movement. No one believed I would achieve this except Paul.

I followed his very specific recovery notes and 6 weeks later at a post op check I was standing on one leg and bending and rising on balance. There were no hiccups in my recovery and I went on to be able to fully demonstrate to my students.

Fast forward to 2025 and the left hip was now unbearable. Truthfully it had been frightening in its decay. Impossible to organise another operation due to being self employed I had to make it last so I went fully into a non processed food diet that reduced inflammation. This totally worked and lessened the pain as I prepared for my left hip surgery.

There was no way anyone other than Paul would be doing this. My utter trust in him and his team made the whole procedure nothing short of amazing. I was even able to keep this a secret from our son who had recently started university because I was in and out of surgery so quickly and three days later back home. My scar wasn’t even stitched it was glued!

24hrs after my hip operation I was able to lift my knee to almost 90 degrees. 7 days after surgery I was eating in a restaurant ( bit swollen but still in a restaurant!) and I could walk with my crutches so easily.

I followed everything Paul recommended, I did all of my exercises, plus Pilates under instruction everyday and I rested, I ate the correct foods however it’s Paul’s absolute confidence in what he can do that has restored my mobility and given me my life and livelihood back. My new hips are bespoke to me. This innovative, unique and holistic approach to hip surgery that Paul provides gets extremely successful results.

Three weeks post surgery, aged 55, I was teaching in a studio again. Three months and I’m demonstrating again…perhaps not full turnout but moving quickly and able to jump!

Paul has a passion for what he does. He has a special gift, a vocation. He cares. It’s evidenced by the results he achieves.

His whole team is about quality of patient experience – from his supporting technician/nurse, patient liaison and the anesthetist that he works with.
